Mark GarrisonNeed a new hairstyle?

If you can't remember the last time you cut your hair, chances are you're really, really past due for a haircut.

Meghan McElheny, of New York City, knew it was time for a major cut—she had not cut her hair in more than a year. Her layers had completely grown out, so she wore it up every day. She's about to start a new job after working in magazine publishing and decided it was time for a big change. She agreed to be my makeover model and, renowned stylist Mark Garrison offered to cut her hair.

A new survey says the average woman will spend about that over her lifetime on shoes.

Style & Co. Heels; Courtesy of Macys.comIt's a well-known fact that some women have a weakness for shoes.

I, for one, have more shoes than I know what to do with and have spent more money on them—from the initial purchase to shoe repair and maintenance—than any other fashion item I own.

Still, a new survey saying that women spend an average of $25,000 over their lifetime on shoes surprised me. That's the price of a new car.

JCP HolidayIt is cliche, but it fits.

"Classic with a twist" can describe JC Penney's holiday assortment.

These are just the sort of classic but not boring looks that will sell when the weather turns chilly. Like many retailers, JCP relies on luxurious-looking details for its holiday collection, like glitzy accessories and faux-fur trim accents to dress up sweaters, jackets and dresses.

AT Loft; Courtesy AT LoftLast week, I wrote about the stylish crowd at Loft's holiday preview party in New York.

And this week, I just got the images of the gorgeous holiday collection (professional shots always look better than my snapshots).

And we're not talking about the fashionable kind.

Bed Bugs; Photo courtesy University FloridaAccording to yesterday's fashion trade WWD, there's a new retail trend happening in New York at the moment—and "it's no micromini."

We're talking about bedbugs. Yes, those nasty critters that feed on humans, causing red welts—which aren't pretty, to say the least.

These bugs have been identified in three Manhattan stores recently. And the infestation, which was first documented on the news after numerous sightings in hotels and apartments, comes just "when you thought things had started to turn around for the industry—people starting to shop again; luxury experiencing an uptick," WWD reports.

New research suggest long-term heel wearing may cause some real damage.

Christian Louboutin heels; Courtesy of SaksHappy Monday! Instead of grabbing those high heels while getting dressed this morning, you may want to grab some flats.

Yes, heels like these Christian Louboutin Prive pumps will make you look taller, slimmer and even sexier.

But at what price?

New research suggests the long-term effects of wearing heels can be more serious than a couple of blisters and some calluses.

Old Navy Holiday 2010The holiday previews are in full swing.

Tonight, I popped into the Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic Holiday 2010 presentation at the company's headquarters in New York's Chelsea neighborhood.

The holiday collections hit retail stores in October and the presentations give editors a preview of what will be in stores. (But I'm giving you a glimpse here—even before the magazines!)
