True love stories: Couple remarries 30 years after divorce

If at first you don't succeed…

By Kristin Wong Dec 19, 2012 3:47PM

The Heart Beat is excited to introduce our new weekly feature, "True love stories." Each week, a couple with a truly amazing love story will be profiled. If you know a couple with a story worth sharing, please email us at msnlivingmail@microsoft.com for a chance to be featured.

Divorce is usually the last chapter in a love story gone wrong. But that wasn't true for Robert Worthington and Bev Worsnop, a couple who decided to remarry 30 years after calling it quits.

The couple originally married when Bev was just sixteen years old. Although they were childhood sweethearts, the union only lasted five years.

"We were married at the old Bolton Register Office in the town center and stayed together for five years," Bev told the Daily Mail. "I was only 16 and was pregnant, but we both felt we had been too young to get married. We wanted some freedom."

In the years that followed, Bev married again, and then divorced again. It was the couple's daughter, Kelly Worthington, who facilitated their reunion thirty years later.

"She'd grown up living with me, but wanted to make contact with [her father]. So I left a note at his home just under two years ago, saying Kelly wanted to get in touch with him."

Bev and Robert lived near each other in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. After Kelly decided she wanted to meet her father, the spark that first brought the childhood sweethearts together was reignited. The two decided to remarry earlier this month, and their daughter, now 32, was a bridesmaid.

Bing: All sorts of love in the news.

"Kelly is now over the moon," Bev said. "There's a lot of catching up for us all to do."

Here's wishing the couple all the best on their second time around.

Good riddens to my ex.  I have been divorced for 19 years and it was a blessing in disguise.  Best thing I got out of the marriage was my son.  I also never remarried either I finally realized after all these years that I just don't have the patience for it.  By the way he is on wife #3. So maybe it was not me that had the issues.

Yep. There was very deep reason they got together in the first place. When I think of my first love (Judy)...my heart stops for a second. But she left me for another guy back then (David), so I can only assume he is the better man. I lived over 50 years without that dream, I can still breath with that dream near my heart. I hope these two never let go of each other. Love is more important than any other experience or thing.

Our favorite platinum blondes of all time

When Madonna posted an image of herself wearing a full on Game of Thrones Khaleesi costume on Instagram last week we weren’t exactly surprised—this is the woman who rolled into the Grammy Awards wearing a tuxedo and a grill earlier this winter, so why not celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim with a leather corset and a pair of tiny dragons? Still, we were hypnotized by her white-blonde, braided Daenerys Targaryen hair. Functioning as a bleached out cultural weather vane of sorts, it tapped into multiple obsessions at once—the return of "Game of Thrones" to HBO, spring’s new extreme hair lengths and, most notably, fashion’s current platinum mania. Our own love of ice-blonde hair—which transforms any look from everyday to extraordinary—has been well documented of late, but last night’s Game of Thrones premiere sent our platinum fever into overdrive. In celebration of fashion’s favorite hair color, a look at the best platinum moments in history.
