The weirdest runway fashions of 2012

Couture creations got more than a little crazy this past year.

Photo: Runway fashion // NY Daily NewsWe here at the Simply Chic blog aren’t above going a little “Simply Freak” sometimes, and the NY Daily News has a piece out that fits that mood perfectly. They’ve compiled a wild and wonderful collection of some of the kookiest creations to creep down a catwalk in the past year.

Check out their gallery and revel in weird designs whose wow factor is likely only surpassed by their price tags. Our freaky faves include a Baroque-style carved wooden dress (wouldn’t want to sit down in that), an oversized heart face mask by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, and a “bejeweled bondage” gas mask from Chinese fashion house She Guang Hu. Some of the looks are gorgeously surreal – we’re digging the butterfly and autumn leaves accessories from Giambattista Valli and the stunning verdant vision from Lady Gaga fave Fyodor Golan.

I think of it as "Performance Art" - Not for people in the "real world, but for fantasy silliness, why not?  I think of it as a sort of "freak show" with really thin people wearing the costumes!  And I don't have to feel bad about not making enuf money to buy any of them, because EVEN if I HAD the money I wouldn't!!

avant-garde fashion is great!!! Most are just for show, but some daring people will wear them beside horrible celebs like Nick and Gag-a.

Who wants to see a boring fashion show like Michael Kors.
