Israel announced this week that a new law has passed, banning all underweight models from walking the runway.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Israel's new law will ban models with a body-mass index of less than 18.5 from appearing in advertisements. That law will also require magazines and other publications to disclose when they use altered images of the models. The new law means that a female model who is 5 feet, 8 inches tall can weigh no less than 119 pounds.

Although other countries are addressing the issue of underweight models with laws like these, the United States may not be jumping on this bandwagon anytime soon, according to the Council of Fashion Designers of America, who says there are no plans in the works for a U.S. law that bans models under a certain weight. “We never had an approach of mandate or enforce,” said Steven Kolb, chief executive of the CFDA. “We create awareness and education.”

Why don't they ban violence against women?  Or oppression against women?  How about the discouragement of the education of women?  Segregation, abuse, murder... the priorities of this country are amazing.

We cant pass a budget.  We cant stop overspending.  We cant stop murder by crazy people.  We can stop thin models.  America is saved by our selfless honest politicians.

I would prefer to have all obese people removed from my sight.  Quite certain they are more detrimental to society.

What a joke.  The world is going crazy.  Now they can dictate what type of employee you can hire.  That will never happen in the U.S., as there are way too many good lawyers very well versed in discrimination law.

8 wardrobe staples to buy now that will only get better with age

Three summers ago, I bought a pair of soft, white-calfskin Chanel loafers. I spent months trying to keep them pristine, but it wasn’t long before a July thunderstorm left them and me soaked. I began steeling myself for what I thought was inevitable: a solemn drop in the trash. But once the loafers dried, I found the shoes’ stained stitching—now storm-cloud gray—was lovely and a few new wrinkles in the leather were charming, like smile lines for shoes. I started to wear them freely—taking on puddles and tossing them onto the sand at the beach—and before long, they transformed. The roughened toe-tops reminded me of a welcoming, worn armchair, and a wet-and-hot summer had molded the material perfectly to my feet.
