Michelle Obama Pays for Her J.Crew Clothes, Just Like the Rest of the World
Stylish Michelle Obama is always seen sporting fabulous frocks around town, many of which are the work of art of popular retailer J.Crew. But just because she lives in the White House, don’t assume she gets everything for free.
J.Crew president Jenna Lyons told ABC News that the first lady asks for no special treatment—instead, she makes her clothing purchases just like everybody else.
"They go to our website and they purchase just like anybody else,” Lyons told ABC News. “She acts like a customer and she has a stylist who helps her, but she doesn’t call in any special favors. They don’t ask for any discounts. It’s pretty unbelievable. … She still continues to wear the product without any help from us.”
That’s especially incredible when you consider the company’s stock tends to rise considerably every time she makes an appearance in J.Crew garb.
In fact, ABC says when she made a guest appearance on “The Tonight Show” in 2008 in a yellow sweater, skirt and blouse from J.Crew, the company’s stock rose 8.2 percent.
