Bizarre Shoes Are Made From Dead Animals

Taxidermy and fashion design, combined. Designer Iris Schieferstein is gaining attention (and controversy) for her line of shoes, but they’re definitely not your average stilettos. These shoes are crafted from dead animals, and they’re pretty outrageous.

Schieferstein, who gets the dead animals for her shoes from her own butcher, leaves the skin on and the fur still in place on the shoes, says the Daily Mail. Then, she hand-stitches the insoles and the lining.

The result is a variety of jaw-dropping styles that include a pair of shoes made from horse hooves, a pair of snakeskin stilettos featuring a pistol as the heel, and even a pair of sandals featuring stuffed doves.

"Creating the shoes is ugly work, taking the meat out is not nice, like any taxidermy," she says. But that doesn’t hold her back from designing them. In fact the artist made a custom pair for Lady Gaga last year.

'"When I began working with dead animals I would pick them up from the street.

"But they are protected by the government in Germany, and so after ten years they tried to put me in prison. Now I use my butcher." Now the question is, who in their right mind wants to walk around with animal hooves on their feet?
