Beat the TSA with vending-machine beauty products
Beauty products made to travel.
File this under "why didn't I think of it first and make enough to buy my own private island." As we reported a few months ago, 3floz.com, the website that found its niche selling airport-size luxury beauty products, is now taking a more direct approach by placing vending machines (packed with stuff like SuperSmile Powdered Mouthrinse and Serge Normant shampoos) in airports such as JFK in New York City and McCarran International in Las Vegas. They plan to launch in at least 125 more locations by the end of 2014.

It really is about time someone did this. Because let's get real: Mini products are the best. Funneling your Oscar Blandi conditioner into a travel-size container and dripping it all over your bathroom is hell. (Or at least a privileged version of it.) It's also nearly impossible to remember every lotion and mask when you're packing, so having a pre-boarding vending-machine shopping spree is a great backup plan. And even if you do remember each product in your routine, some derivative of Murphy's Law states that if the TSA can plausibly take it away, they will. How reassuring is it to know that when your Molton Brown shower gel gets confiscated by the uniformed lady on a power trip, you can just grab another?

Just one more request to make this even better: Can someone please start selling socks or flip-flops near security? I've had to walk around barefoot one too many times.

To get the scoop on quick office party beauty tricks, we turned to Landy Dean, celebrity makeup artist at Marie Robinson salon. His simple tutorial requires only a handful of products, starting with the darkest, inkiest eyeliner you can find. Dean swears by the Nars Larger Than Life liners smudged over the waterline and lashline, topped off with a few coats of Maybelline The Falsies mascara. Before you dash off to apply product, there’s one small step that involves removing makeup. “If your foundation and concealer have caked or creased, I recommend a quick removal with a cleansing towelette and a redo to avoid heavy looking skin,” he cautions. For those who would prefer to go the easy route, apply a hydrating moisturizer using a stippling motion and a sponge. Finish the look with a dusting of BareMinerals Mineral Veil—“this will even out discolorations and give a reflective finish that still looks natural”—swap your work bag for a chic clutch, and get ready to ring in the season.
