France crowns plus-size beauty queen

A French beauty pageant for curvy woman.

Since 2007, the Miss Ronde pageant has been celebrating curves, and this year was no exception. The competition took place again this year, with 26 plus-suze models competing for the winning title—queen of La Ronde (which literally means “the round.” According to the Daily Mail, this is the country’s only plus-size beauty pageant.

During the competition, a panel of eight judges chooses a winning contestant after watching them parade down the catwalk and listening to them speak on topics that include life, work and motivation.

The competition was started by Calais pychotherapist Thierry Frezard, who created the concept as a way to commend his plus-size wife and help her to feel beautiful. This year, contestant Brunette Julia Castelli took home the Miss Ronde beauty crown.
