The Lazy Woman's Guide to Fall Beauty
This year, fall beauty is all about vibrant lip shades, jewel-toned eyes, and a clear, bright complexion, says Lidia Tivichi, a clinical esthetician, makeup artist, and founder of Maris Dusan Spa in New York City. "It's important to change your skincare routine and makeup colors as the seasons change to revive your complexion and keep your makeup looking fresh," she says. Try these quick and easy tips to make this your prettiest fall yet!
Go for Multitasking Makeup
Thanks to breakthrough skincare formulas, you can simplify your beauty routine by using products that multitask. "You don't want to overload your complexion with products because that will leave it looking dull," says Tivichi. Try using a formula that acts as a foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen all in one. Tivichi recommends Oxygentix Oxygenating Foundation because it offers breathable coverage and is healthier for your skin than wearing no makeup at all, thanks to special peptide ingredients that boost healing oxygen.
Make Your Lips a Vibrant Red
Make a bright, warm red shade like the autumn leaves your go-to fall lipstick. These hues enhance your complexion and make your eyes pop in an instant. "Brunettes should try a fiery or ruby red shade, while blondes should try coppery or coral red," says Tivichi. Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint in Fiery and Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance lipstick in Fierce are bright, pretty fall reds. Both are available at Sephora stores nationwide.
Revive Sun-Damaged Skin
"Women need to deep clean and exfoliate their skin after the summer," says Tivichi. "Sweat and heavy sunscreens often clog pores, and summer days spent in the sun can cause freckles and brown spots." Help unclog pores and reverse sun damage with quick, easy-to-use brightening pads. We like BeautyRx Advanced Exfoliating Therapy Pads because they contain 10 percent glycolic acid, as well as lactic acid and Tetrafoliant, meaning they work triple-time to revive tired, dull-looking skin.
Score Fuzz-Free Legs With Lasers
Laser hair removal eliminates oh-so-annoying shaving from your beauty regime. "Most women tend to think of hair removal in the summertime because that's when they're showing more skin," says Erin Lindemann, a certified national LaserFast Hair Removal trainer at Syracuse Laser Spa in Syracuse, New York. "But summer is actually the worst time to get laser treatments as you're likely to be tan and lasers work by detecting a contrast in pigment between darker follicles and lighter skin. Fall is actually the best time to get a consultation." Not only are you spending less time in the sun come autumn, but the process takes about six to seven treatments spaced four to eight weeks apart (depending on the body area), so you'll have the whole winter and spring to get ready to be hair-free for next summer.
Get Fuller Lashes Without Mascara
If you want thicker, longer lashes but don't want to apply mascara every day, LashDip is an ideal solution. The cutting-edge treatment is like a creamier version of a lash tint, darkening and plumping lashes while lasting for about a month. If you're not quite ready to splurge -- LashDip costs $250 for the initial application along with a complimentary two-week touch-up -- you can also get the look with Too Faced's Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System.
Grow Full, Lush Brows
Strong, dramatic brows are still in for fall (think: Sophia Loren). "I see many women who have over-plucked and now their eyebrows won't grow back," says Tivichi. "You can fill in thin brows with an eyebrow powder that's only slightly darker than your natural hair color. Don't use an eyebrow pencil, because it tugs at the delicate hairs to create friction that can make them fall out." Tivichi also recommends using a product called GrandeLASH MD, which helps brows and lashes grow thicker using vitamins, minerals, and peptides. "If you use it everyday for one month, you'll have noticeably thicker brows," she promises.
Play Up Your Eyes with Jewel Tones
Forget boring black: Make your eyes standout with bright, jewel-toned hues -- emeralds, amethysts, and citrines. "Greens and purples will look gorgeous on brunettes, while oranges, golden peaches, and yellow shades will make blondes' eyes sparkle," says Tivichi.
Nourish Skin with Serum
"It's so important to use a serum in the fall because the summer sun can dry out skin and cause free radical damage," says Tivichi. "Serums are like food for your skin because they help nourish and rehydrate your complexion." She recommends a formula that contains hyaluronic acid for maximum hydration to help diminish the appearance of fine lines. We love Eminence's Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum because it's made from good-for-you organic ingredients such as marshmallow plant extract, aloe vera, and honey.
