Hair How-To: 7 Days, 7 Styles
Day 1
On wet hair, create a deep side part, then double-strand -- twist hair and set twists on small rod rollers using an equal mix of wrapping lotion and a curl-defining cream. Once hair has completely air-dried (you can also sit under a hooded dryer if time is tight), release rods without combing out curls, and wear rolled look.
Day 2
For a more relaxed look, produce a textured fro from your existing coils. Use a pick to undo twists and to pull hair out from the roots. To finish, rub on a dry oil, like Mizani Supreme Oil ($25, mizaniusa.com for salons), for extra shine and hydration.
Day 3
A fun hair accessory does double duty: It adds excitement and keeps wayward curls under control. Pair a floral headband with curls and waves for the ultimate updo. Place headband at the hairline and push up instead of back for high impact.
Day 4
Now it's time to get creative. Part hair into three small sections on the sides and twist each section up, making sure it blends into the Afro. Secure twists with bobby pins and fluff the top to achieve a cool Mohawk-like shape.
Day 5
Release twists on the side and continue to have fun with shape by brushing the sides and back of hair up for a smoother, more sophisticated look. The curls will be less defined at this point, so work them to your advantage by keeping the top full. Once you find the shape that suits you, secure with hairpins.
Day 6
Section off hair, and corn-row the sides and back up into about 10 to 15 braids. Play with the size and dimension of each braid to add interest. A textured pompadour will give the look the right amount of edge for weekend outings. If needed, put on a textured hairpiece to bring new life to the style.
Day 7
A scarf is always a chic way to refresh a week-old do or mask unraveled pieces or fuzzy braids. Here we twisted the scarf and tied it around like a headband.
Second Model - Day 1
A bone-straight do is easy to maintain on days you need to run out the door quickly. Use a ceramic flat iron to keep hair smooth from root to end without major heat damage.
Day 2
For a fast change, go for a chic pony. Make a deep side part, and smooth on a conditioning pomade around your nape and edges before brushing strands back with a boar-bristle brush. Wear pony at just below the crown for a grown and sexy look.
Day 3
Clip-on bangs let you switch things up without the commitment. Add volume and waves to your bob by twisting hair overnight and releasing in the morning. Then clip on a bang so that it falls right below the brows.
