The new plus-size rules
Old rule: Shroud yourself in black.
New rule: "Black lets you hide, but that's not always good! A bright piece with a slimming fit, like this red pencil skirt, will draw the right kind of attention."
Old rule: Skinny jeans are for skinny girls.
New rule: "Try ones in a heavy denim with a lot of stretch—they smooth you out and hold you in. A flowy top keeps your look in proportion."
Old rule: Large prints make you look bigger.
New rule: "Go for one with a graphic that's randomly placed," says Aimee. "It keeps the eye moving, so it doesn't draw attention to one spot."
Old rule: Run from horizontal stripes.
New rule: "Wear thin stripes on a dark background. They won't highlight problem areas like thick ones can. And a nipped-waist jacket will help define curves."
