Plus size models

“Model” conjures an image of a sylph-like female with slender proportions and bouncy hair who smiles incandescently on magazine covers. But a study out of Durham University in November 2012 (http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0048691) found that our concepts of ideal beauty are more influenced by media than hardwired by psychology. That sylph is lovely because the magazine says she is, not so much because we independently find her to be. Further, the Durham study poses that if we had more exposure to idealized images of women of all shapes our ideas of attractiveness would broaden. So it is a good thing that 2013 is shaping up to be plus-sized year. Gorgeous models that wear dress sizes in the double digits are making appearances on magazine covers and spreads, runways and ad campaigns. Here are some lovelies of whom we hope to see more.
