Skorts: Skirt the Issue

A fashion hybrid that's hung on year after year, this clever combo of shorts and a skirt has something to offer every body shape. Obviously a great choice to dress a larger rear and thighs, it can also add curvy swing to boyish figures or a bit of balance to a busty, top-heavy type. Skorts come in cuts ranging from surprisingly elegant knee-length wrap styles to micro-hemmed numbers that hit scandalously high on the thigh. And since sporty looks have couture cred as a hot trend, skorts in fitness fabrics such as mesh or hi-tech poly blends can double as a style statement.

For curvy hips, bottom, thighs or mid-section, skorts that hit from mid-thigh to just above the knee are the most flattering, and A-line shapes that skim but don't cling provide terrific trimming. (Faux-wrap closures also whittle waists.) Straight figures in need of a little flirty curve should wear tiered hems, ruffled detailing and horizontal striping, while bodies bigger on the bottom benefit from the opposite: Clean lines, minimal decoration and solid colors enhance your look.
