The top 15 fashion trends to shop for this fall, from the runway
Military with a twist
Military-inspired cool carries over from last fall, but this year, it’s elevated with tailored cuts, edgy-luxe detailing, and inspired interpretations. Take this Prabal Gurung harness-topped riding suit for example—so tough-girl chic.
The new power suit
The suit gets an update with streamlined ladylike silhouettes (cigarette pants, boxy-cropped jackets, ’50s-style skirting) and gorgeous texture and detailing. We’re loving this fuchsia ensemble from Thakoon’s summer-inspired fall collection.
The statement coat
All the designers—from Tom Ford (and his leopard-print puffy coat) to Altuzarra (and his furry bombshells)—got the memo that an eye-catching statement coat is just the ticket to becoming a street-style star this fall. (And it’ll keep you warm too!)
From the 3.1 Phillip Lim (my personal favorite) to Prada runways, leather is populating the fall collections in every single form you can think of—moto jackets, pants, tops, dresses, and so much more. But wait—you’ve been on top of this trend since summer, so you know faux works just fine too.
OK, so you guys were skeptical about this trend after last Fashion Month, but we swear that a rounded, sculpted shoulder—seen everywhere from Alexander Wang to Dior—is an ultimately slimming and flattering silhouette. Especially in a richly textured jacket or sweater to pair with skinny pants or a pencil skirt.
