Bing : Retro
Vintage vixens rule the sand this season in swimwear cuts that are not only trend-right but totally figure-flattering, too. Look for supportive halter straps or bralike cups up top and high-waisted, belly taming bottoms. Campy tropical florals, polka dots and oversized stripes are the patterns to parade.
Shapes and styles: Asymmetrical
Bing : Asymmetrical
The allure of the one-shoulder bodice isn’t just a hot eveningwear trend; it also sizzles under the sun. Single straps abound on bikini or tankini tops and one-piece suits, and range from wide to stringy-strappy. Amp up the trend with shiny hardware strap accents and you’ll do swimmingly.
Shapes and styles: Monokinis
Bing : Monokinis
Can’t decide whether your next bathing suit should be skin-baringly flirty or sleekly sexy? Don the best of both worlds with a monokini, our fave fashion hybrid of the year. These single-piece suits sport strategic swoops and cutouts – sometimes subtle, sometimes scandalous – for a fresh take on the classic maillot.
Shapes and styles: Flutter bikini tops

Plan on hitting any outdoor music fests this year? When the heat is on, this sweet boho-flavored swimwear top layers great with jean vests and flowy maxi skirts. (Oh yeah, and it’s also cute to swim in.) Laser-cut cotton designs or crochet trim cinch the trend.
Bing : Tribal
All manner of boisterous prints and can’t-miss colors are popular on swimwear right now. Tribal prints cover those bases and throw in a global-chic angle as well. Colors are usually earthy, but if you’re on the adventurous side, we’re seeing lots of neon and pastel variations blazing forth.
Bing : Digital
Take a picture, it’ll last longer: Straight from the couture catwalks, digital prints have arrived on our swimwear this year, and they put on quite a show. Some of these mesmerizing designs are photo-realist reproductions, others display vintage art, while many bewitch with psychedelic abstracts.
Bing : Geometric
Florals, stripes, checks and polka dots are girlishly flirtatious bathing-suit prints, but the trendiest pattern this season leans more toward the mathematical. Don’t worry; we’re not talking isosceles triangles or perfect octagons here. Think: ’60s Op-Art designs radiating cool color combos.
Prints: Mismatched bikinis
Bing : Mismatched bikinis
Some seeming fashion faux pas are not mistakes at all. Witness the red-hot clashing bikini trend. It flaunts a laid-back vibe and also means – and this is our favorite part – you get four bikini looks with only two suit purchases. And the wilder the abandon the better: Mix florals, stripes, checks, animal print, etc.
Bing : Fringe
Another boho beach-babe trend, swimsuits with a little swing are showing up everywhere this sunny season. It’s especially sweet on bandeau bikini tops, adding a whole other level of sexy, but you’ll also find it cascading over one-piece swimwear, bringing textural interest to an otherwise sleek suit.
Bing : Shirred
Pleating, ruching, draping, shirring: Whatever you call this textural technique, it all adds up to figure flattery. Shirred fabric over the top boosts the bustline, while ruching at the waistline or over the tummy visually whittles those areas. This neat technique also keys in on the vintage vibe trend.
