Prints: Black and white
Spring has sprung, so refresh your wardrobe and cheer up that closet. The newest trends are totally energized, showing off extroverted prints, the brightest hues we’ve seen in ages, and silhouettes that both flatter and feel good on your figure. — Shannon McCarthy
Bing : Black and white
The trendiest print this season is equal parts sophisticated and playful – plus, it’s super easy to integrate into your existing wardrobe. Designers are nuts about it, so all manner of spring attire is sporting baroque, botanical, checkered and polka-dot prints in this classic color combo.
Bing : Floral
Floral prints are symbolic of everything spring, and this year they are bolder and more beauteous than ever before. They’ve outgrown their usual corner of the fashion garden, too, and are now blooming on unexpected staples such as workday blazers, date-worthy heels and casual cropped pants.
Bing : Snakeskin
An exotic print with just the right touch of luxe elegance, snakeskin brings the sexy to spring. Brightly tinted python is what we all saw slithering down the catwalks, but a more natural, muted palette makes these somewhat edgy prints fit effortlessly into your everyday fashion rotation.
Bing : Animal
So classic we’re not even going to call it a trend, animal prints are a mainstay of any chic woman’s wardrobe. That said, some seasons see a veritable stampede of beast-inspired motifs, and right now it’s truly a jungle out there. The fiercest picks are all feline: leopard, tiger and cheetah.
Bing : Green
The color of spring’s awakening is also the hottest hue of the season. Emerald is Pantone’s “color of the year,” but really any fresh verdant tint -- mint, chartreuse, moss, lime, etc. -- instantly updates your look for 2013. If you’re shade shy, try the pop of green shoes or shoulder bags.
Bing : Blue
All manner of cerulean hues grace spring’s easiest pieces: Maxi dresses, pretty tunics, casual tanks, maxi skirts and any other go-to you can think of breeze through the new season in blue’s cool range. Lighter tones such as turquoise and aqua are especially trend-right and beautifully bright.
Bing : Orange
Although our trend spotting revealed neon orange pantsuits, we’re not advocating getting that citrus crazy. Flaunt this sunniest of all spring trends in a more wearable way, say a linen shift or sheath dress; a cool, cotton, floral-printed skirt, or that most versatile of closet staples, the tank top.
Bing : White
White is so firmly on fashion’s radar that we saw it flaunted last fall as one of the fiercest head-to-toe looks around. Pantsuits and other matching ensembles got the snowy drift. Spring ’13 sees more of this basic bright, so grab it on seasonal picks such as crochet, lace, easy knits and crisp linen.
Shapes: Cropped pants
Bing : Cropped pants
Call ’em capris, ankle pants, gauchos or clam-diggers: This spring the style story is shorter. And while you’ll find these easy, breezy pants made with soft, flowing fabrics and wide hems, the most on-trend are trimmer, tapering past the knee and tailored to lay sleek against the legs.
Shapes: Pencil skirts
Bing : Pencil skirts
This trim skirt silhouette got a major trend boost after everyone saw what it did for Christina Hendricks’ curves on “Mad Men,” and the love for the wardrobe workhorse continues. Pencil skirts aren’t just for the office, either. Spring sees them step out in the sun and play in linen, cotton and flirty floral denim.
