Fall's Menswear Trend for WomenThe menswear trend is a classic, reappearing on our style radar every few years. This season the look is big and bold, with classic patterns (plaid, houndstooth, herringbone weave) and timeless silhouettes (the blazer, the trouser, the T-shirt) made femme-friendly.
Whether you call it borrowed from the boys, on loan from the lads or grabbed from the gents, mixing a bit of classic masculine tailoring and fabrics into your more frilly fashion rotation creates a killer dynamic. This can translate to slouchy casual on the weekends or chic and polished on workdays. Let's not forget what a little playful cross-dressing can do for date night. Sometimes the sexiest thing a woman can wear had its start in a guy's style file.
Casual: Jean Genies
Almost every woman's style playbook includes throwing on jeans and a T-shirt, and the classic combo is the most basic "boy wear" ensemble most of us own. This year's tweaks to the theme include destroyed (aka distressed) denim skinnies, boyfriend jeans, graphic tees and long-sleeve slouchy tees. And nothing is currently hotter in denim than the jean jacket. Its casual wear cousin, the chambray denim shirt, is softly androgynous and a bit more polished than an equally hot top trend: the plaid flannel shirt. Cargo pants in army green, cropped pea coats, roomy parkas and anoraks report for military-trend duty, while grandfather cardigans are a mellower take on macho.
