Weirdest reasons people have divorced

We've come across some odd tales of lost love. Here's our list of the weirdest reasons people have divorced.
Freelance // Freelance

Blame it on the book

A woman reading a racy book Next Slide

In 2012, this book was a godsend for many couples' sex lives. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect on one couple from London, England, who cited the novel in their divorce proceedings.

Bing: Which book was blamed for ending their marriage?
Search:
Where was it banned?

After reading the book, the wife felt a surge in her libido, but her husband refused her advances, saying, "It's all because you have been reading that bloody book." She then initiated the divorce.

An unveiling

Previous Slide A woman with her face turned away Next Slide

A Saudi Arabian woman wore one of these every day throughout her 30-year marriage, completely hiding her face from her husband. One night, the woman caught her husband lifting the curious covering to sneak a peek.

Bing: What was she using to hide her face?

She was so outraged she asked for a divorce.

Nasty nickname

Previous Slide A cell phone lighting up Next Slide

A Saudi Arabian man had a secret nickname for his devious wife.

Bing: What was the 'insulting' nickname?

One day, she gave him a call, but he'd left his cell phone at home. Upon realizing this, the wife checked his phone, and what else popped up but the insulting nickname he'd bestowed upon her. The nickname was so bad she filed for divorce after 17 years of marriage.

Sweet tooth? Not so much

Previous Slide A fork with cake on it Next Slide

If divorce isn't bad enough, Cheng Yu of China can probably never eat this type of dessert again. Cheng Yu's wife forced him to eat the sweet treat after every meal until he got positively sick of it.

Bing: What sweet treat caused him to leave?

Apparently, he was fed up with his marriage, too. He left his wife after she kept shoving the decadent dessert down his throat.

CGI: Computer generated infidelity

Previous Slide A couple in bed Next Slide

Laura Skye, of Cornwall, England, came home to find her husband in bed with another woman. It was the last straw, as Skye had already forgiven her husband for having sex with a prostitute years ago, so she decided to file for divorce.

Bing:On which site did the man have the 'affair'?

This story wouldn't be so bizarre if not for the fact that both affairs took place in this virtual world. The divorce, however, was all too real.

Sleep talking gone wrong

Previous Slide A couple in bed, not sleeping well Next Slide

Akhtar, a Muslim man from West Bengal, India, muttered this word three times while he was sleeping. Under Islamic law, that was enough to render him divorced from his wife. Akhtar consulted local clerics, and they confirmed that the couple was indeed divorced.

Bing:  What was the word that he said?

If you thought sleepwalking was a problem, beware of sleep divorcing.

An ugly split

Previous Slide A pregnant woman sitting on a deck Next Slide

Jian Feng of China was married to a beautiful woman who was pregnant with their daughter. JIan Feng grew suspicious once the baby was born, however, as she looked nothing like her mother.

Bing:  What did he discover about her?
Search:What else did he say happened?

He soon discovered the discrepancy was due to the fact that his wife had spent $100,000 on this before they were married. The shock was enough to cause him to file for divorce.

Polly want a divorce?

Previous Slide A birdcage Next Slide

This loudmouthed animal helped one woman discover that her husband was having an affair. The woman was already suspicious of her husband's infidelity, but when their pet began repeating phrases like "I love you," "divorce" and "be patient," she decided to end the marriage.

Bing:Which type of animal spilled the beans?
Search:See photos of it

The animal accompanied her to the law office; unfortunately, her lawyers didn't think it would be allowed to testify in court.

Apparel aggravation

Previous Slide Divorce papers and a gavel Next Slide

After only a year of marriage, Emese Nagy of Romania filed for divorce from her husband, Tamas. The issue? He refused to wear this particular item of clothing. While Tamas said he loved his wife and didn't want a divorce, he would not wear this item because it made him "feel very uncomfortable."

Bing:  What did he refuse to wear?

Ladies, let this be a lesson. Make sure your man dons these before saying "I do."

Pet hoarding

Previous Slide Dog kibble and water in bowls Next Slide

Can haz divorce? An Israeli man split from his wife after she adopted 550 of this type of animal.

Bing:  What were the animals she loved so much?

He still loved her, however, and the couple attempted to work things out. Unfortunately, the wife was simply not willing to give up her precious pets.

MSN, please explain to me why we have to 'search' for the answer to these?  This is dumbest way to get people to use BING.  If you are going to create an article, then give us the damn answers.  Most people read these articles as a quick escape from whatever task they are doing, they don't read it to then have to go and search (using BING) for the answer.  I get so mad when i see these dumb 'articles' which are just really an advertisement for BING which actually sucks!

It's a shame that couples nowadays can not work out their stupid and silly problems but instead threaten for divorce.

I agree with ridiculous13, MSN; why in the world do you take this stupid approach to making your readers search for the (often idiotic) answers to your definitely too many stupid question? Sorry, ridiculous13, for adding my own thoughts there; not trying to pin my words onto you.

If you want readers to stay interested, just write the articles straight through. I mostly gave up reading your articles years ago because of this very thing, and stopped reading them just now after seeing that it's just the same old junk again and again and again. Your readers don't want to go an Internet search that just might take us off into a different direction, thereby "increasing" our interests in other things.

Just write the articles with the answers, and we'll all be a lot more interested in what's there!

I left my first husband because he was socially retarded and wouldn't grow up.  I left the second one after I found out that he and his brother had barried a litter of puppies alive when they were teenagers. Any man that can do that to an animal is capable of anything. Once I filed for divorce, I found out what a complete wack job the guy really was and had to have a restraining order filed against him. While the courts may not find those reasons to be legal grounds for divorce, it was enough for me.
