A good first-date first-impression is almost as essential as a strong first-date-cocktail. Maybe you're tired of being the bad boy, and you really want to wow this girl with some newfound, genuine charm. Or, maybe you're sick of being given the girl-next-door treatment, and you're more interested in seeming every bit the sexy-siren this evening.

It's poor form to ever mention gifts to your guests. But just wait until you read her former friend's response.

I just got an email from a frustrated wedding guest, we'll call her Gretchen, who is currently in school and recently lost her job and hasn't gotten around to giving her childhood friend (who we'll call Brandy) a wedding gift. Gretchen, who is 23, had given Brandy a homemade bridal shower gift and had said (TWICE) that she'd "make up" for the wedding gift when she had more cash. (I should mention here that while wedding planning, Brandy was vocal about what she and her groom spent per guest to throw their wedding: $200.) Of course at this point (twice) Brandy-the-bride should've said, "We know you're strapped. We don't need a wedding gift, we just wanted to celebrate with you."

Sentenced to: Take a break from dating

A Nebraska judge doled out an unusual sentence for a man who was part of an attempted burglary, but hesitated at the last minute and didn't go forward with it. Because the judge deemed the defendant had a "moral compass," he sentenced him to a fee and probation--and part of the terms of probation is a ban on romantic relationships. The judge, like everyone giving post-breakup advice, actually said, "You need to focus on you."

OKCupid recently announced plans to give users the option to pay a fee to weed out "unattractive" users — those who describe their body types as "overweight," "a little extra," "full-figured," and — most unsettling — "used up."  They also offer the option of allowing their paying "A-List Members" to choose partners based on an attractiveness rating gleaned by a "five-star scoring system determined by OkCupid’s own algorithms," according to Gawker.

OkCupid's co-founder, Sam Yagan, was quoted as saying, "You always have an option not to fill in anything you’re not comfortable with revealing about yourself online."
