The divorce rate is getting higher, because people are choosing not to invest in their committed relationship. If you believe things are going down hill in your relationship, and then you keep doing the same things then it will continue to unravel.

Nobody comes from a perfectly functional family. The challenge in a marriage is to learn new ways to keep your relationship healthy and in-tact. The way you do this is to take marriage education classes, and read articles that suggest how to change your thoughts/feelings/actions regarding your relationships. Focus on what you want more of in your relationship, not what you don't want. You can start by asking all of the successfully married couples you know how they make it work.

Therapy does not solve magically solve your marital issues. My masters is in counseling, and I've found it more empowering for couples to take online workshops, use coaching, and in other words actively take an interest in making their relationships better themselves. Relationships don't break, nor do they need to be fixed. People divorce, because they take the easier way out of continuing not to address the real issues. You have to own your marriage, believe in it, water and feed it to make it thrive. And, if you don't know how to have a great marriage, then you have to learn skills to do so.
