I Knew He Loved Me When…

How do you know a man truly loves you? A small sparkly gift is always welcome. (Or, indeed, a large sparkly gift.) But what about those for-your-eyes-only moments—the ones that seem corny in the movies but actually happen in real life? My readers often bring up a scene from my book Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, in which Luke Brandon, the hero, returns Becky Bloomwood’s scarf to her. She’d sold it to cover her debts, and he secretly bought it back. A scarf: not so sparkly. But the scene is one we can all relate to. Here, some of the true-love moments women like you shared with me when I asked, “When did you know?” —Sophie Kinsella, author of Confessions of a Shopaholic and the forthcoming I’ve Got Your Number.

I knew he loved me when he cleaned me after having our first child via c- section. Ladies who have experienced a c-section know how painful it is to move around after the procedure. I did not want the nurse to touch me when I started bleeding heavily. My husband took is upon himself to clean me up "down there" while the nurse sat amazed. It looked like a massacre during my first trip to the restroom and he took it like a man. He never once made me feel uncomfortable or disgusting. Its almost like he understood. That was 5 years ago.

I knew that my husband loved me when I was hit by a car, and he didn't leave my side for 3 days.  My Dad made him leave to eat and get some sleep. Otherwise, he would've stayed until I left the hospital.

I knew he loved me when while out on a motorcycle ride we had an accident.  I was thrown off the harley into a field (it was night).  When he and friends we were with finally located me, no I wasn't moving, he was right there making sure I was okay.  But the moment I knew he truly loved me was when I looked at him and asked him how the bike was (anyone who dates, marries, etc., a HD owner/biker will understand) he touched my hand and said f*** the bike I just want you to be okay.

Like CrThom, after my eighth abdominal surgeries to fix several problems, my

wonderful husband came into the bathroom and wiped my butt.  Only a person

that truly loves another would do that for them.  Oh yeah, we will be celebrating

our 32 th wedding anniversary in August.  He's a keeper.

I knew my Fiancee loved me when after a year of being SUPER disliked by my parents and sisters he stuck around. when we first started dating, i was only allowed to go to the movies and then straight home (needed tickets to prove i was at the movies). My dad almost kicked his a** after I went home drunk one day, thinking he got me drunk on my graduation (he picked me up and took me home). 3 years later (NOW), he moved in with me 3 hrs away from our hometown so I could go to school=] This guy has done too much for me<3

Gotta love the people who didn't bother to give a thumbs down to the dating spam but did so for the touching personal stories about spouses demonstrating their love. LOL! What are you? Women with husbands who won't go the distance or men who know you don't measure up to the standards set in these posts? In any case you didn't have the conviction to actually state what it was that bothered you so much about other people's relationship stories.
