Recently, Smitten reader Lindsay emailed us to ask for budget-friendly ways to celebrate her boyfriend's upcoming college graduation. Since we're all about romancing the men folk without our over-extending our budgets, I think we can help her out, don't you, gals?

Here's Lindsey's dilemma: "My boyfriend is about to finish up with his undergraduate degree. He's 28 and has taken several years off while he worked, but has finally had the time to finish it since becoming unemployed. His last two classes are online and he should be done with them both next week! I am super excited for him and want to celebrate! He won't be doing the graduation ceremony in December; instead we want to have a big party with friends and family a little later in the year. I want to do something special for him. I don't want to buy him something because we are both working on getting rid of "stuff" in our lives and I know he doesn't need anything. We're both working on getting healthier, too and have given up sugar and gluten. So baking or taking him out to dinner won't work. So what can I do to my him feel special and let him know that I am so proud of him without spending too much money?"

Thanks for reaching out, and congratulations to your boyfriend! It's adorable that you're ready to shower your new grad with sweetness. I've got a few ideas that just might fit the bill:

1. Give your guy a few congratulatory backrubs. I've never met a man who didn't love a massage from his girlfriend. He'll especially appreciate these if your getting-healthy kick involves work-outs that leave him with sore muscles.

2. Wash his car. He's probably been pretty busy writing papers and studying for final exams. My guess is that he's neglected cleaning his car; I know I did during my last few weeks of college! Get his car nice and shiny with a bucket full of soapy water and a few old rags. Don't forget to pick up all the discarded papers and coffee cups from the interior. If you're feeling particularly generous, you could wear your most bootylicious shorts and let him watch you get all sudsy.

3. Surprise him with a romantic hike.
Hit the trails together and pack a sweet surprise picnic to share once you reach a cozy-looking clearing. You guys will have fun working on your fitness and he'll be excited that you've packed some of his favorite (healthy) snacks to munch on.
