8 signs you're too bossy In bed

Has the spark between you began to fizzle? It could be that you've made sex way more about you than him. That ends now! Here are eight signs you're being too bossy in bed and how to share the love.
Essence // Essence

You put your fantasies first

If all the new experiences you’ve shared in bed are inspired by only your fantasies and not his, then you’re just not playing fair. You should want a starring role in his fantasy fun too.

Solution: Role-playing marathon! Only, this time, let him be the director.

You bring work to bed

Previous Slide A man and woman in bed with a laptop Next Slide

When you bring your tech toys, like your laptop, iPad or smart phone, to bed, it sends a clear message his way: You’re not in the mood to play with him because you’d rather play with them. If he was hoping to have a little fun before bed time, this feels like an immediate shutdown.

Bing: Leaving work at work

Solution: Institute a “no electronics in bed” rule immediately to avoid distractions taking center stage.

You talk more than you listen

Previous Slide An intimate couple kissing in bed Next Slide

Nothing kills the mood quite like an awkward conversation that comes out of nowhere. It’s okay to be distracted – it happens! – but try to avoid switching gears on him mid-moment to talk about “something that’s been on your mind.”

Video: Unspoken rules of a happy marriage

Solution: Before you go there, ask yourself: Can the conversation wait until you’re both ready to have it? Your voice can and should be heard, but don't forget to stop and listen to what he wants too.

You constantly refuse his special requests

Previous Slide A couple being playful in bed Next Slide

It’s important to always keep in mind that great sex requires effort on both your parts. If he’s telling you what turns him on and you repeatedly choose to ignore it, there’s no compromise there.

Bing: Keeping the spark in your relationship

Solution: The next time he hints that you slip into some sexy lingerie (see the new February issue of ESSENCE for suggestions) or wear your hair a certain way, oblige him. It will only lead to more fun.

It's your way or the highway

Previous Slide A couple kissing outside under a blanket Next Slide

Navigating through busy schedules, parenthood and other obligations can make scheduling time for sex a real challenge. But, that doesn’t mean it’s forgivable to only pencil it in when you feel in the mood.

Video: 2-minute couple coach -- Relationship survival

Solution: Pull out the calendar, and set dates for romantic evenings at home that fit both of your schedules.

You're a snob when it comes to his suggestions

Previous Slide A couple play-fighting in bed Next Slide

The fastest way to disappoint your boo in bed is to enthusiastically ask him what he wants and then completely disregard it – especially by laughing or rolling your eyes.

Solution: Be open to trying new things for him (like positions, toys, or locations) just as you’d want him to at least attempt to try “that new thing you read about the other day.”

You don't play fair

Previous Slide A couple pillow fighting Next Slide

Admit it, ladies. You’re easily annoyed when he wakes you from a peaceful (much-needed) early morning or late-night slumber with one thing on his brain. Only, when you’re ready for some loving, he’s a bore when he won’t wake up. That’s not fair.

Solution: Open the communication lines further. Agree to be upfront with each other and be clear on the difference between a night when you’re really exhausted or one when you're just calling it a night.

You have too many prerequisites

Previous Slide A couple in a bed standoff Next Slide

“Shower first!” “Only when my hair isn’t freshly done!” “Wait, I need a nap first!” Are you guilty of spouting out requirements like these when your lover proposes intimacy? If so, it’s time to tone done the demands and consider the obstacles you may be creating.

Solution: Put simply, be more flexible and willing to step outside your comfort zone.

FIRST OF ALL, I CAN SPEAK FOR ALL MEN AND I LOATHE WHEN THE WOMAN EXPRESSES WHAT SHE WANTS IN BED. IDGAF. I PERSONALLY GET TURNED ON BY A WOMAN WITH HER HEAD BUSTED OPEN. I MYSELF AM A LITTERAL TARANTULA IN BED. HOW AM I TYPING? IDKSMBBC. I BELIEVE HUMANS THINK MORE ABOUT SEX THAN TARANTULAS. JUST ONE TARANTULA'S OPINION.

Wow this article is racist all the pictures are of black people and the ad at the last picture is also black. Every article like this are all black people in the pictures way to be racist pigs msn. BTW I'm black and I'm calling this racist. If we want racism to stop then this kind of crap needs to go or racism will never be dead. Just like it's racist when us blacks say them white people putting someones race first shows your a racist. When describing a suspect to a cop leave race out of it don't say it was a black guy with medium build or a white guy with medium build just say it was a guy with medium build no need to bring up there race that's being racist. There are other ways to get across the persons race with out saying it. Like blond hair and green eyes which would indicate a white person, black hair and brown eyes would indicate a black person I just described a person with out mentioning race.

It is boring and uneventful, and it used to be fine, never anything over the top, just fine.  It never interested me all that much.  Most of the time, I'd rather be doing anything OTHER than the constant humping.  After 40 years of the act, give me a break.

Sex in bed?  I don't think we have ever done that in 38 years of marriage.  We have sex almost daily but not in bed.  That is for sleeping unless you are an insomniac like me who lives on 2 hours sleep a day!

in the end, it's a win win

First of all I can't speak for all men but I love when the woman can express what she wants in bed and is not to shy to share all her fanasties I personally get turned on by a open mined woman. I myself am on the dominate side and like  to be in control most of the time ,BUT I do have a lot of fanasties where I like a dominante woman and I can let her take control. I belive women think more about sex than men think but they don't express what the want or need as much as men do in fear of what  their partner might think both parties in a relationship should hold nothing back making love is about leting iit all go and enjoying each other. Just one mans opinion.
