Robot helps guys find perfectly fitting jeans
Hointer, a new venture by a former Amazon executive, relies on robotics & a smartphone app to sell men’s jeans.
Jeans are a staple of every man’s wardrobe. Finding the perfect pair is akin to the quest for the Holy Grail, and buying jeans that fit properly is almost as tricky as finding a budget-friendly pair.
A small store in Seattle has big plans to change how men shop for this wardrobe staple.
At Hointer, a new venture by former Amazon.com executive Nadia Shouraboura, shoppers use smartphones to scan QR codes on pairs they like, reports The Seattle Times. Designer denim is then delivered via a robotic system to their dressing rooms.
More than 150 styles of men’s jeans are available at the “beta” store, described as an “ugly duckling with seriously powerful technology inside” on Hointer’s website.

With the swipe of a credit card -- and without ever talking to a salesperson (although staff is available to answer questions) -- shoppers can send for different sizes and colors via the Internet. The whole process is designed to take 30 seconds or less.
“There’s a lot of hassle and wasted time associated with shopping, and it’s just not fun,” Shouraboura told The Seattle Times. “But if it’s easy and convenient, it can be fun.”

“What she’s trying to do is create a ‘purposive’ shopping experience. If you have clear goals as a shopper, this is really going to work out for you, but not everything is going to go this way,” Sandeep Krishnamurthy, director of the University of Washington-Bothell School of Business, told The Seattle Times. “Some shoppers like to browse a lot.”
