Street scanner to detect concealed guns

The NYPD is testing a device for virtual pat-downs.

Yesterday, the commissioner of the NYPD announced the department is now testing a device that can detect concealed handguns on a public street.

Commissioner Ray Kelly explained at a breakfast gathering that the device reads the radiation people naturally emit and generates an image of a body glowing green. A concealed weapon, or any object obstructing the flow of radiation, will be highlighted in the image.

First came the demand to revisit laws, matched by a caution against overzealousness. Next came the proposed legislation and the fevered backlash against it.Here in phase three, a nation newly sensitized to gun issues is elevating secondary debates to the polarized top tier. Should a newspaper have identified the names and addresses of local permit holders? Was the NRA’s attack ad referencing the Obama daughters fair game? Did anti-gun advocates misrepresent a congressman's position by selectively editing his TV ad?

The device the N.Y.P.D. is testing is big and bulky, shaped something like a television camera, but portable enough to be loaded into a police truck and stationed anywhere. Kelly cited a benefit in the police's being able to detect guns carried by criminals without resorting to pat-downs and stop-and-search procedures, but noted that the NYPD was still considering how best to deploy the technology, and would d be consulting with their legal team.

Despite the timing, the scanning device wasn’t rolled out in response to the gun debate. Kelly said a year ago that his department was looking at the technology (and in the interim has been hoping to extend the device’s workable range to about 80 feet). While New Yorkers at that time might have unilaterally cheered a measure to keep cops and citizens safer from illegally held arms, fervent debates over personal liberties, the Fourth Amendment (search and seizure), privacy, and gun owner rights seem inevitable to follow.

These cops are openly firing cancer causing ray-guns on civilians. Notice how they specificly "scan" a poorly dressed African American within a lower class neighborhood.

New York city, Washington DC and Cook County Illinois already have the strictest gun control laws on the books. Are these laws enforced nope. If anybody thinks that criminals will obey a new law are a special kind of stupid. Educating the people to understand they are not better off disarmed is foremost. Vermont wants non gun owners to pay a 500.00 /year tax for the foolishness of not owning a firearm. This law is needed in all 49 other states. Enforcing the current over 2000 gun control laws on the books is needed before any other new gun control laws are passed. The 2nd Amendment is carved in stone and no executive order will superceed this 2nd Amendment. if this country is to remain free.

I already know that the people need to inform the CONgress that they work for the people and COngress has demonstrated that they can't lead the people. The people need to organize and clean the House and Senate of the career politicians. Term limits are needed and changing the Constitution isnt needed. Passing an amendment for term limits will be easy and the sheep will bleat that they are in danger. The CONgress needs this along with King Obummer and uncle Joe. The CONgress should be pushd over the fiscal cliff and not the veterans and people  on Social security.  CONgress pay should be held back if there is a problem will show America we mean business

I have been handling guns ever since I was 10 yrs old.  Hunting and also Military.  Please don't tell me that most people have also been doing the same.  As of recently most people committing these crimes have not ever been trained how to use a weapon.  Check the records of the FBI, they will show that the US has the lowest death rate per 100,000 people than nearly every other country.  Every one of those countries has 100% gun ban laws.  Of all the Nations ours is 4.1 killings per 100,000 people while the worst is up to 91.1 per 100,000.

AS I SAID CHECK FBI RECORDS THEY ARE AVAILABLE.  The bill being introduced by Feinstein of Calif ., is the beginning of the end for our rights.  She needs to be replaced as do all elected officials in D.C.  They are only there for themselves and do not work for us as they should be .  Most of the upper cabinet members are nothing more than Thugs from Chicago.  And when OBAMA does leave the White House will he move back to Chicago?  No, he has bought a place on the Northern part of Oahu in Hawaii.  Wonder where the money came  from for that place.

This is nothing more than a government agency conducting an illegal search.  Another of our Constitutional rights being stepped on at will.  None of this will keep us safer nor will it prevent any crime.  Just more taxpayer dollars being pissed away and more of our privacy being taken away.  On a busy street, if you walk in the middle you will have several heat shields around you and they still can't see a concealed weapon.  So, if you live in a city that uses these and you get robbed at gun point just find a good lawyer and sue the city because this is supposed to make you safe.  Soom we will have no freedoms because many in this country will fall for anything as long as they tell you it is for your own good.

If a cop actually has time to pull that devise out and use it, then the people Most likely to use a hidden gun has time to pull out their gun and shoot them with it! So what ever, waste time looking to see if a person has a gun on them and pray it isn't malfunctioning when you put it away and approach lol!
