Bedroom eyes: 13 tips and tricks to sex-up your home
Tip #1: Keep it clean
“This should go without saying, but if you want to give off a sexy vibe, your house should be spotless,” Humphrey says. If tackling this on your own is too much to handle, he suggests scheduling an affordable cleaning service once or twice per month. “It’s a small investment with a big return,” he adds.

Tip #2: Use candles
“You want your place smelling nice without being overwhelming, so skip the bedside scented candles and keep them in the entry or living room to avoid your home smelling like a beauty store,” advises the Los Angeles–based designer.

Tip #3: Add flowers
“Forget the orchids and roses -- peonies, tulips and lilies are all available in your grocery store and lend a more interesting touch,” Humphrey says. “If you’re having trouble deciding, just remember to stick to one variety per vase and cut the stems to highlight the blooms.”

Tip #4: Invest in bedding
The design guru says to “invest in the best bedding you can afford. Start with crisp, classic whites, and when you’re feeling more advanced, try mixing patterns.” He also suggests buying two sets, so you’re covered on laundry day.
Tip #5: Get a bed frame
“There’s nothing sexy about a mattress on the floor. You’re not in college anymore, so it’s time to grow up and get a frame,” Humphrey says. No matter what your budget or decor preferences -- from sleek minimalist wooden frames to upholstered and even four-poster beds -- you’re sure to find one that suits your style.
Tip #6: Try fur & faux fur
“I like to use a touch of fur (or faux fur) in clients’ homes -- a simply folded faux-fur throw at the end of your sofa will warm up your room, while real fur hides, like sheepskin, are extra-sexy when they’re sustainably sourced,” says Humphrey.
Tip #7: Add shiny accessories
“Whether new or vintage, there’s a variety of brass and nickel decorative hardware out there to help make your home sexy. Just think of shiny bathroom cabinet hardware like jewelry for your home!”
Tip #8: Stick to natural fabrics
It’s time to go au naturel. “Natural fibers are the sexiest. Go for cashmere, silk and 100 percent wool and skip the satin,” suggests Humphrey.
Tip #9: Add color
“Using color in a sophisticated way can be really sexy,” Humphrey advises. “Don’t go all-out and paint your walls red or teal, but bring in color as an accent -- try pillows or a small tables. And gentlemen, try going monochromatic with different shades of taupe or gray. Primary colors are not sexy.”
Tip #10: Try wallpaper
Wallpaper is back, especially when featuring a chic print or texture. “It’s a great way to liven up a small space like a powder room or entryway and a quick method to show your guests a bit of your personality,” says Humphrey.
