Elvis song leaves Utah school district ‘All Shook Up’

High school play is scrapped after complaints about a sexually suggestive song.

A Utah school district has pulled the curtain on “All Shook Up,” a production that uses Elvis Presley’s music, reports The Associated Press. The show, which is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” is claimed to include a sexually suggestive song that could be taken as offensive.

District spokeswoman Sandy Riesgraf says a person approached the district and complained about the play. After reviewing the script, Riesgraf says it didn't meet new standards put in place in August after another high school play came under scrutiny.

Students at Herriman High School had already started rehearsing the play, which was scheduled to debut in February.

This isn’t the first time the plug has been pulled on a high school production due to so-called inappropriate content. Just last month, an Ohio woman was forced to resign from her post as drama teacher after a sold-out production of “Legally Blonde” was deemed too racy by school officials.

Do you think the play should have been canceled?

Obiously a public school!  Some public schools have  even cancelled school sponsored Junior/Senior proms because they don't want to deal with the controversy with gays and lesbians wanting to bring their same sex partner to the event.  In today's uptight about everything world, it's probably best to get back to just teaching the 3 Rs...no sports, no drama club, no year book, no assemblies, etc.  Again, it's probably a public school, so what do you expect...quality?  Those days are long gone.

Wackos looking for somethig to complain about.  If you are that narrow in what you want to allow  your children to access, put them in a religious school that shares your views.  Don't force your views on everyone else who has a more moderate viewpoint.

MAYBE - story does not say what the song was that they found so offensive. I think we should be enforcing a few more limits on our children. We are NOT doing them any favors with our anything goes attitudes
