Elvis song leaves Utah school district ‘All Shook Up’

High school play is scrapped after complaints about a sexually suggestive song.

A Utah school district has pulled the curtain on “All Shook Up,” a production that uses Elvis Presley’s music, reports The Associated Press. The show, which is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” is claimed to include a sexually suggestive song that could be taken as offensive.

District spokeswoman Sandy Riesgraf says a person approached the district and complained about the play. After reviewing the script, Riesgraf says it didn't meet new standards put in place in August after another high school play came under scrutiny.

Students at Herriman High School had already started rehearsing the play, which was scheduled to debut in February.

This isn’t the first time the plug has been pulled on a high school production due to so-called inappropriate content. Just last month, an Ohio woman was forced to resign from her post as drama teacher after a sold-out production of “Legally Blonde” was deemed too racy by school officials.

Do you think the play should have been canceled?

I think it's sad that you even ask the question without any way for us to review the part they are complaining about.  You are asking our opinion on something of which we lack facts.

They want to see inappropriate they should look no further than the bible. I mean heck, this "God" is basically being praised for being a deadbeat baby daddy who knocks up a married chick then disappears and doesn't pay child support. Then the husband just has to take it and can't complain else he be beat up by the baby daddy. Yes this is the message we should send young men as they grow up.

I know of a school that took the word "melanoma" out of a song lyric because someone in that town had died of melanoma before. True story.

We show our students the "sex movie" before they are in junior high. As long as we are teaching them to be responsible people, this kind of censorship is ridiculous. If you object to the content of a production, don't buy a ticket.

What high school has not done a remake of the show, 'Grease'?  Has anyone out there read the lyrics?  Hahaha.
