Elvis song leaves Utah school district ‘All Shook Up’

High school play is scrapped after complaints about a sexually suggestive song.

A Utah school district has pulled the curtain on “All Shook Up,” a production that uses Elvis Presley’s music, reports The Associated Press. The show, which is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” is claimed to include a sexually suggestive song that could be taken as offensive.

District spokeswoman Sandy Riesgraf says a person approached the district and complained about the play. After reviewing the script, Riesgraf says it didn't meet new standards put in place in August after another high school play came under scrutiny.

Students at Herriman High School had already started rehearsing the play, which was scheduled to debut in February.

This isn’t the first time the plug has been pulled on a high school production due to so-called inappropriate content. Just last month, an Ohio woman was forced to resign from her post as drama teacher after a sold-out production of “Legally Blonde” was deemed too racy by school officials.

Do you think the play should have been canceled?

I was a teen when this song came out, of course we had other things on our mind, not sex. People should get there minds out of the gutter. All shook up was a great song by Elvis, remember he still is the KING. People now days are very quick to judge and make something out of nothing, what a shame.

Good grief, that song is from 1956, it wasn't suggestive then, and neither is it now.

If they feel it is suggestive, then I imagine 90% of Rock & Roll is too.

Welcome to Utah self proclaimed the most Republican state in the country and the most conservative. The state where smaller and less intrusive government applies to large businesses and gives them pretty much free reign, (no campaign contribution limits hence out and out corruption  of public officials), while suppressing individuals right to make choices. (Self admittedly a "control state").

OMG! What a bunch of prudes who should keep their noses out of other people's business. No one forced the complainers to attend the play and I don't see that any of the kids' parents complained.  I think the Book of Mormon is suggestive. Will this school district ban it as well? C'mon! Dirty is dirty or don't your plural wives agree?

American society of today is so classless, so low-class, and quite frankly abjectly stupid.  Its nice to see school districts show a little bit of class.  Be sexually suggestive on your own time and on your own dime.
