Dad illustrates his kids' lunch bags
Graphic designer David LaFerriere wins craftiest dad award for his creative sandwich bag art.
Let’s face it. Brown-bag lunches are kind of boring.
But if you’re one of David LaFerriere’s kids, Evan, 15, and Kenny, 14, you can bet their lunch is cooler than your kids.
Since May 2008, the graphic designer has been scribbling imaginative drawings with a Sharpie marker on his kid’s sandwich bags. His collection of work is documented on Flickr.

LaFerriere told Buzzfeed:
“Each drawing is done just after I make the sandwich. My kids don't see the drawing until it is lunchtime. The challenges are coming up with an idea and then drawing quickly and directly on the bag, every line counts.”
The designer first experimented with food coloring, trying to draw directly onto the bread. The combination of the bread’s rough texture and a time consuming process made this an inefficient sandwich bag decorating system, so he turned to using Sharpie markers he told Flickr.

LaFerriere estimates that he’s illustrated more than 1,000 bags.
“The sandwich bags are something that my boys and I share together,” David told Flickr. “They love it, and nothing makes me happier than hearing their reaction at the end of the day.”
