Travel essentials for moms
As moms, we’ve all been there. With just days--maybe hours--to go before a trip, we're running around trying to make sure all of our children's bags are packed. But inevitably, packing our own bags always seems to come last. So while the kids are perfectly prepared for anything that comes up on worldwide adventures--from fighting off airplane colds to multiple layers for combatting climate changes--we generally save about five minutes to pack a bag for ourselves.
Whether it's a long distance European vacation or a couple of hours on the road to visit family, I reach for a few must-have items that I’ve found always come in handy. Not only will you be organized, prepared and ready to tackle any unforseen hiccups, you’re sure to look and feel fresh and chic no matter your destination. Click on the slideshow above for my travel essentials, and bon voyage!

Messy Moments organic wipe packs
Whether you’re traveling by plane, car, boat or train there will be kid messes. And these little organic packs, which you can find at Walgreens, are not only the perfect size for your travel bag, they’re also non-toxic.
Cool cashmere poncho
You can’t leave home without one of these! It’s cozy, chic and it goes right on the minute I sit down on a plane. Trust me, it’s a lot softer and cleaner than throwing on an airline blanket and this one is even Made in Italy with Love by Manu Cashmere.
All in one bag
Every mom needs a go-to travel bag. I try to opt for ones like this from Vanessa Bruno that can double as a purse while we’re globetrotting.
The stress saver
Traveling has its stressful moments no matter what fabulous vacation you’re on. All you need is a few quiet moments and sniffs of this this all-natural aromatherapy treatment from Spirit Beauty Lounge and you’ll feel ready for any travel snafu.
It’s not easy to find a coat that isn’t heavy or bulky and looks great both day and night. A bejeweled military coat such as this one from FIGUE can be worn all trip long from sightseeing to an al fresco dinner in the piazza.
The mom tech essential
Being on the road all day or sightseeing on the go means your iPhone will inevitably give out on you. Forget trying to find a wall socket or international adapter and stash your Mophie in your purse. You’ll stay connected even when you’re far away.
There’s no reason you can’t rest easy and sleep tight while you’re away. Be sure to pack your favorite pajamas like these from my favorite far flung travel site ShopLatitude. Whether you opt for long, short, boyish or sexy, a cozy night means mom wakes up happy.
Keeping items all packed away in their own special spot keeps kids and mom happy. These colorful zipper bags are my go-to for any trip (and everyday life) and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They can be used to hold everything from Band Aids and suntan lotions to socks and undies.
