Elf on the Shelf creations you've gotta see

Not familiar with Elf on the Shelf? If your Facebook feed isn't blowing up with photos of cleverly posed toy elves, let us help: as the story has it, these toy elves watch over children during the day. At night, the elves report to Santa on whether the kids have been naughty or nice. Then, as everyone's asleep, the wacky little elves prance around the house, getting into all sorts of ca-razy mischief. Parents get to showcase a little homespun (or Pinterest-inspired) creativity and hope their elves keep the kids in check, and kids wake up to something funny in the morning. Or, they're forever scarred for life by the idea of a creepy little plastic doll eyeing their every move. Either way, we've chosen 25 of the most cleverly posed elves to bring a smile to even those with the coldest, Scroogiest hearts… By Gina Cohen, MSN Living Lead Producer

What a great idea to keep kids in line during the holiday season.  Too bad you can't use it the rest of the year.

Although not all of these are safe for work, here are less kid friendly elf poses.  For when the kids are asleep and the elf is running amok.

We did this since 1980, it's nothing new.  we had FOUR elves running around our house, and we still do it even thought our kids are adults.

I debated on posting a reply to this thread.  I was originally stunned when my pillow showed up in this slide show in the first place.  I had run across this saying many months ago and related to it because I indeed find the Elf to be creepy and it's a running joke in our family.  I made the one pillow, posted it for sale, and sold it in September.  I subsequently had many requests to make more which I politely declined due to the time-consuming nature of the process.  I stitch because I love it but have to squeeze in time to do it around my full-time job and raising my family.  I then received a message from someone chastising me for making something that would be frightening to children, especially in the wake of what happened in Connecticut.  It so happened that I received that message on the day after I had not slept more than a couple of hours because I had been having nightmares all night about Newtown.  I was shaking with exhaustion and outrage as I tried to respond with polite fury as follows:  "I removed the single transaction from my store several weeks ago and will not be selling any more. However, it had already been shared on social media sites many many times as well as being posted on MSN Living and I have no control over those pictures or their removal and this pillow was never intended for a child. To insinuate that I am insensitive to the unspeakable horror that transpired in Connecticut a full two months after I sold a single pillow with this saying on it is repugnant." (I tried to remove the transaction, but apparently it didn't work)  Would I produce another one of these now after what happened?  Of course not.  It's not funny anymore.  Nothing much is.

My kids really like looking for the elf each morning and there are some funny poses here that I'll use. However i have to say that the last slide (#25 with the pillow) was totally inappropriate...especially after the tragic events of Dec 14th.

I am amazed at this elf on the shelf craze. This elf is really old and not a new thing at all. It is all fun but not the true reason for the season.
