20 Pinterest crafting 'fails'

Oh, Pinterest. We love you, we hate you. You inspire us, and you make us feel terribly lame at the same time. But what we always love, without a fault, is finding examples of people who have tried, and failed, to create a Pinterest-inspired work of art. With that, our fave 'fails.' Original Pinterest inspirations on the left, crafting fails on the right - away we go… By Gina Cohen and Charyn Pfeuffer, MSN Living

Cookie Monster cupcakes Next Slide

‘C’ is for craft disaster.

Yes, it takes some above-average icing skills to pull off the Cookie Monster cupcakes on the left, but the use of a pastry bag would've helped keep this poor baker from turning their masterpieces into cookie-vomiting smurfcakes.

Previous Slide Baby posing as a pumpkin Next Slide

Oh baby. This Pinterest fail looks like an Anne Geddes photo-shoot gone awry.

Video: How to take cute baby pictures

The concept is pure cuteness overload, but this sweet li'l pumpkin is also one sad li'l pumpkin. Not exactly a Hallmark moment...

Pinspiration: Melted crayon art

If you’re okay with ruining your glue gun and removing the paper wrappers from crayons, it is possible to create a beautiful rainbow of melted crayon art. Or this.

Looking for a fun, kid-friendly drink? Make mocktail magic with sparkling water and cotton candy.

Stick to a single color or else your beverage will end up an unsavory shade like this poor Pinterest fail.

Pinspiration: Star Wars pancakes

Previous Slide Star Wars pancakes Next Slide

This mom gets props for trying to make chocolate chip pancakes healthier by using pecans, but there are no words to describe the final product. Well, except perhaps "skinned Chewbacca face." Don't think these will make the menu at IHOP anytime soon.

Pinspiration: Barbie cake

Previous Slide fondant cake Next Slide

We’ll give this Pinterest fail mom a pass – working with fondant is tricky. That said, this cake looks like a walk-of-shame version of Mattel’s most perfect figure.

Pinspiration: Santa ornament

Previous Slide child-made Santa ornaments Next Slide

We love kid-crafted holiday ornaments, but a mom intervention may have saved this Santa version from looking like a fringed sock puppet.

Pinspiration: Bouncing rubber ball

Previous Slide homemade bouncy ball Next Slide

Kids’ science projects are super cool, but we seriously don’t think this two-ingredient 'bouncing' ball is going anywhere. Except into the garbage bin.

Pinspiration: Yarn eggs

Previous Slide yarn eggs Next Slide

With just three items – glue, yarn and balloons – what could go wrong? This impatient Pinterest fail crafter not only used the wrong ingredients, she put the yarn egg on a paper plate to dry, thus rendering it not remotely egg-like.

Snide comment for slide #16: "Someone needs to use spellcheck (or hire a copywriter) before they’re allowed to operate a Bedazzler™."

Headline for slide #18: "Snowman Doughtnuts".

True, the melted snowmen weren't **** as the others, but they were, after all, melted snowmen, and while I might have considered legless Barbie an attempt at open-mindedness, her holding a insurance company advertisement pencil makes me suspect the poster's intentions were less virtuous.

Not sure who tried the melted crayon one... but mine came out fine. They didn't use a hot glue gone in the nicely done one, they blew hot air on it with a blow dryer.

I also did this on a gesso'd pizza box. Another pinterest idea, which also worked.

Scouts reject troop sponsored by gay rights group

The Utah Pride Center recently asked permission to start a troop for 10 middle-school aged children with straight troop leaders, said executive director Valerie Larabee. Many of the boys' parents had previously left Scouts or opted not to join because of their opposition to the Boy Scouts' long-standing policy excluding gays and lesbians.

As more teens have gone mobile, using their phones as an extension of themselves, hotline providers have tried to keep up. Fewer seem to operate today than in decades past. (AP Photo | Reed Saxon)

The top 11 ironies of motherhood

Motherhood. It’s the most amazing, most confusing journey of your life. But it also comes with its fair share of ironies. Like, oh, baby is finally sleeping through the night, but it’s in your bed. Or the fact that you just bought baby a whole new slew of pacifiers, but baby now hates his paci.

I thought our home was relatively safe. There’s no pool in the backyard, no loaded guns lying around, and our television has a v-chip to ensure no visitors are accidentally exposed to 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.'
