Family reunited with dog lost in monsoon
Missing dog found after two years.
Jessica Rowe didn’t think she’d ever find her daughter’s best friend — a Pekingese with one eye who she’d adopted from the pound. Buddy ran away from his Mesa, Ariz., home in May 2011, when a monsoon storm blew open his townhome’s gate while Rowe was at work.
But that changed on Friday, when she got a call from the Phoenix police. The little dog had run out of an apartment complex in nearby Phoenix and struck the side of a passing police car. Officer Don Martin immediately stopped and went back to help the dog, and took him to a veterinary hospital, reported AZ Central.
There, doctors were able to save Buddy — and track down his original owner.
“What potentially was a terrible situation, it turned out incredible. I still can’t believe it,” said Martin, who paid Buddy’s bill at the animal hospital.
Once he recovered, Buddy was reunited with a grateful and emotional Rowe.
