Missing cat travels 190 miles back home

An emaciated Holly the cat was found just a mile from her home after two months' lost.

When they took their motor home on a road trip to Florida’s Daytona International Speedway in November, Jacob and Bonnie Richter brought their cat, Holly, with them. But while they were there, Holly got spooked by fireworks one night, and escaped.

Photo: ABC News The Richters searched for their pet for days but had no luck. Finally, they made the 190-mile drive south to their West Palm Beach home.

The indoor cat apparently spent the next two months walking home, and was recently found emaciated in a yard just a mile from her owners’ home.

The woman who found Holly took her to a veterinarian and discovered a microchip with her owners’ information, and helped Holly make the final leg of her trip home to the Richters.

“It was quite a journey for this little girl,” Jacob Richter told Florida’s WPBF-TV.  “We just can’t believe she came home.”

What an incredible story.  I've never heard of anything like this with a cat before.  It's remarkable.  HOW on Earth did this cat accomplish this?  And successfully at that?  I hope she's okay given her emaciation and anything else that may have happened to her.  Hope they follow up on kitty's condition, and hoping her owners take exceptionally good care of such an exceptionally good cat.

I too had a cat named Holly.  She had to be put down last year.  Miss her, so I can only imagine how upset they were.  What a great little calico!

Doesn't take long for the sick people to begin with their comments.  Moving on, having a cat, I can understand how thrilled Holly's family is to have her back home.  Big thank you to the lady who rescued her &  went to the trouble of taking her to the vet to check for a chip.  What a good heart she has.  My Abby sends a message to Holly, "Good job, Holly, finding your way home.  If you're ever in CA come by and we'll share some nip!"

Cats use a built in type gps. They use the moon and earth's graviational field to  plus they have extrodinary sensory and memory systems to know where their at and where home is.. They will almost always find their way back, unless you move. Amazing animals....

Top 10 dog names of the year

We've already examined the most popular puppy names of 2012, but just finding out which names we're most likely to hear at the dog park wasn't quite enough. We wanted to look at which monikers were on the rise, so we dug a little deeper to determine the 10 trendiest names of 2012. To do so, we hit up Vetstreet's data, which includes information about 1.26 million dogs. We looked at where the names were in 2003 and 2012; those that moved up the most made the list. Of course, some names fell off the list completely in the past decade — Elvis, Ozzie and Cassie among them. Some of these were replaced by newer names like Thor and Athena that, despite a late entry to the Top 100, have become popular enough that they, too, were included.
