Puppies reign on Super Bowl Sunday

Everyone wins at the Puppy Bowl.

By Vetstreet Feb 4, 2013 4:18PM

Before the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers kicked off Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, there was another (much cuter) big game on Sunday afternoon: Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl IX.

Photo: Animal Planet / Puppies take to the field at Puppy Bowl IX.The game featured 63 adorable shelter pups from around the country — as well as Meep the bird who Tweeted game updates, hamster sports reporters, hedgehog cheerleaders, the traditional kitten half time show and one lucky human ref, who doled out penalties for “excessive cuteness.”

Marta, a Schnauzer-Beagle mix who’s “deceptively athletic,” took home the “Most Valuable Puppy” prize — and all of the puppies are now the winners of forever homes. — Read it at USA Today and meet the puppy players

Plus: Never doubt an animal prognosticator! Or at least not these two. Both Teddy Bear the talking porcupine and the Golden Retriever puppies who delighted the audience on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night last week picked the Ravens, who won 34-31.

Sure wish I had watched this "game" rather than the flop of a perfomance by Bounce on the SB Halftime Show.  What a bunch of sleazy women...  And STILL boring....

I'm  happy to hear that they all found homes.  If I didn't already have 2 dogs in my city apartment, I would have liked to adopt Marta.  I hope that many other dogs were adopted besides the featured puppies.

it is shameful people are taking advantage of dogs for a monetary gain in their pocket.  these dogs didn't ask to be put in an enclosed space a beat up by some dog that is bigger then themself.  What kind of sick freak thinks this is good.

Much better than the Stuper Bowl and Beyonce screaming like two cats in a fight!

Puppy Bowl is never disappointing.  This year's was the best yet and, yes, the kitty half-time show deserved to be at the "real" Bowl!  Congrats to Animal Planet for the puppies, kittens, hedgehogs and hamsters!  Well done!
