11 Fashion Tips from Mom Bloggers
Wrap It Up
When looking to instantly add some punch to an outfit Nicole Feliciano of Momtrends suggests picking "one statement accessory that makes the outfit without overwhelming it." Her favorite go-to accessory? A scarf!
The Little Black Blazer
Cardis are so 2011. Instead, Jill Seiman of Glamamom tops off her outfits with a black blazer, because "I can throw it on over a dress or a t-shirt and jeans." Her favorite is "tailored and fitted; I've had it for years."
Double Duty
Nina Banks of Momma Go Round's favorite style secret is as easy as flat-ironing her hair, but she doesn't stop there! "My flat iron does double duty -- on my hair and my clothes!" says Banks. "I don't take the time to get my big iron out; while I'm doing my hair I might as well do my shirt at the same time." On the left, she flat ironed the ruffles on her yellow top, and the plackets on her plaid button-up shirt.
Dry Shampoo
Mornings are tough! And even though you'd never admit it (OK, maybe you would), sometimes you don't have time to shower. That doesn't stop Melissa Angert over at All Things Chic: "When you're running so far behind, dry shampoo is a life saver." Her fave? "Suave makes one called Keratin Infusion, it's great for making your hair smooth and silky."
Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, $3.49, available at amazon.com
Juicy Fruit
When Pantone announced Tangerine Tango as the color of 2012, Shana Draugelis of Ain't No Mom Jeans thought of an easy (and comfortable!) way for a mom to incorporate this citrusy hue: "Ballet flats are coming out in a ton of colors, and I've seen some in tangerine." In particular, she's a fan of J. Crew's Lula patent leather ballet flats ($128) and rainy day bow ballet flats ($58).
Easy as 1-2-3
Unless the carpool lane is your personal red carpet, Kate Marsh Lord at The Shopping Mama has the key to your morning makeup routine: "For me, there's no need to do a full face of makeup or a blow out to take my kids to school." Instead she sticks to three basics: mascara, lip gloss and moisturizer. She's a particular fan of Fresh Sugar Plum Tinted Lip Treatment ($22.50, sephora.com) because the "plum color is subtle and adds a little color; I'm totally addicted!" Check out her mascara and moisturizer picks here: Buxom Lash Mascara (in Blackest Black), $19, available at sephora.com
Pack a Punch
Why carry around a neutral black bag if your mom uniform is tan, gray and blah? "Put some thought into it; get away from the neutral handbag, and it will make an impact to your overall look," says Tammy Gibson of A Mom in Red High Heels. Her bags are big enough to carry all the mom essentials, while participating in one of the biggest spring trends: a pop of bright color!
The Quickie
All-in-one makeup products get the job done, quick. "One of my favorite products is the NARS Multiple stick in 'Orgasm' [a peachy pink]," says Whitney Wingerd from Mommies with Style. "I keep it in my purse because it can work as a blush and a lipstick when I'm on the run."
NARS The Multiple, $39, available at sephora.com
Insta-Beach Waves
What woman doesn't want perfectly un-perfect beachy waves? Molly Dynan Navetta of Ain't No Mom Jeans found a mom-friendly way to achieve the look. "I'll shower the night before, dry my hair until its a little bit damp, flip my head over, comb it smooth and twist my hair in a top knot," (a ballerina-style bun that sits on the top of your head). When she wakes up, "it's nice and wavy and full in the morning, and it has interest and texture to it."
Put a Cape on It
Lauren Jimeson at A Mommy in the City recently gave birth to her second daughter, but her go-to maternity uniform of a cape paired with leggings and boots works for preggos and non-preggos alike. Celeb moms like Katherine Heigl and Sandra Bullock also love this easy trend.
